SEGA was BAD

A double page spread illustration for Wordburglar's RHYMES WITH COMICS anthology graphic novel. Each story is based on a different Wordburglar rap song, with the lyrics as the dialogue, and each is illustrated by a different artist. Get it? Rhymes WITH comics!

When Burgie hit me up for this, I had to say yes, even though my time is veeery limited these days. I'm a hardcore OG SEGA kid--I still have a SEGA Genesis in my studio that I play all the time. Also, SEGA was BAD is a track from the album I drew the cover for: BURGONOMIC, and I'm 99% sure the genesis (haha) of the song was me asking Burgie to perform at a SEGA themed art show I was putting together in the Beforetimes, which ended up deader than the Dreamcast, thanks to Lockdown.

The compromise was to do a single spread rather than a comic, which I based on the design of the classic SEGA Genesis game cartridge boxes. Lyrics on the 'back' where you'd have gotten a blurb about the game, with Burgie and co-MC Mega Ran as Playah 1 and Playah 2 in the example screens. The front cover features a motley crew of first party SEGA and licensed badasses, showing off their badassery with REAL BLOOD (ABACABB) having kicked the sonic out of the viewer. THEY JUST SO BAD.
